… and the drop in temperature and change for daylight savings has coincided with the beginnings of people beginning to get ready for the holidays. Planning. Shopping. Decorating.  Cooking. Wrapping.

It’s not surprising that more people are beginning to feel a little under the weather.Heal, word cloud concept

The holidays are a wonderful thing, but I’d like to remind you to take care of yourself while you  get ready to make merry with others.

  • Dress warm.
  • Get enough sleep
  • Drink more fluids
  • Listen to your body and give it what it needs
  • Pace yourself. You’ve got enough time to get your holidays together and a holiday with less bells and whistles but you feeling good is better than a holiday with all the trimmings including colds or flu.

Put yourself on your own holiday list and do what you need to in order to be healthy so you can enjoy those holidays

Mainstream medicine. Alternative medicine. Meditation. Stress management. When it comes to your health and well-being, there’s a lot of things that you can be doing to make your life better.

But what’s the most important thing you can do for your own health and happiness?

Listen. Listen to what your body is telling you…

  • If you feel tired, sleep.
  • If you feel like eating, eat. If you don’t, don’t.
  • If you feel stressed, slow down or stop what you’re doing and do something that brings you back  to your center.

Our culture is built up of concepts of more/better/faster. We’re taught to think of our bodies as being like machines that carry us about, and that we can “push through” any tiredness/sickness/problems.

Sometimes that’s true. Sometimes  we just have to. But sometimes ignoring the messages our bodies are sending us is the way that we get sick or end up having accidents.

I was in a car accident a couple of weeks ago. I’m left with an assortment of minorly sprained joints and all of the extra effort that goes with replacing an old beloved car. We’re into spring and the extra pollen load is less than helpful for my energy level as well.

And so I need to listen to my body and what it’s telling me. I may need extra rest or analgesics or accupressure. I may need to prioritize what will get done, what will get done on the usual time and what ma have to be delayed a bit.

Somedays I’m better at that than others- but my body continues to faithfully send me signals about what it needs for me to heal and be happy.

Stop now.

Listen.

What is your body telling you?…
