The Scent of Sanctity in the Mainstream

Was looking through a catalog the other day. Not a New Age catalog- just an everyday “things – for -your -home” catalog.

And I found something interesting

I spotted a line of  cleaners that in 4 scents

Sage – as is used for smudging to clear a room of negative energy;

Lavender – which is good for stress relief;

Lemon – which in aromatherapy is an energizing scent;

And Vanilla Lavender – adding the loving comforting scent of vanilla to the stress relief of lavender.

Looks like the mainstream world is catching up with the metaphyscal community .

Safety in Potion Making 2

A basic list of  equipment for potion brewing.
 Non- reactive pots;  that means stainless steel or teflon lined, 2 & 5 quart.
 Strainer
 Measuring cups  1/4-1 cup, pint and quart; plastic will do
 Measuring spoons
 Funnel
 Ladle 
 Non – wooden stirring spoon, Wood may look archaic and “Witchy” but steel or plastic avoids cross contamination
Heat source, such as a hot plate
Storage jars and bottles
Mortar and pestle
Now where can you get these things ?
Big Lots, Ocean State Job Lot, Family Dollar are good sources for inexpensive kitchen ware, Pier One for storage bottles and jars, and if you have access to an IKEA store, then you can find all of it.

Safety in Potion Making

I’m taking break from the Warding series  to do a post or two on the importance of  safety in the art of making potions and related mixtures.
So let me put on my Severus Snape hat and get started.
1: Do not use your cooking utensils for making magickal mixtures. This is both for ritual reasons (separating  the magickal from the mundane) and for safety reasons. (Some of  the materials are poisonous ) .
2: While I am all for “Green” Witchcraft,   if you can obtain new containers for your finished products, you can avoid cross contamination due to residue ingrained into the material of the container. Think pasta sauce in a plastic container.
Next time …… what you need and good places to get them.

Something Tasty

First this is SPECIFICALLY MADE to be eaten.

Poor Man’s Boursin:
 1/2 pound butter (2 sticks) softened
2  8  oz. packages of cream cheese, softened
1 Tbsp.  Garlic powder – more if you like.
1/2 tsp oregano
1/4 tsp marjoram
1/4 tsp thyme
1/4 tsp basil
1/4 tsp white pepper
1/4 tsp dill weed

mix ingredients until well blended.
serve with crackers, raw veggies,  on roast beef, or baked potato.
  Enjoy.

Palmistrywoman’s Summons to Dreamland, (and How You Can Get the Answers You’re Looking For…)

If  you’ve been reading this blog, you’ve probably noticed that part of it is announcements of where you can catch the psychics of Foresight for classes, readings and the other services we provide. You’ve also probably noticed that most of our blog is posts that teach you practical skills for living in this magickal world.

What you may not know is how we chose what we’re writing about…

Starwolf and I are both rather ecclectic. Each of us has been active in the areas of spirituality, personal growth, metaphysics and alternative health for over 40 years . Since our areas of interest in these fields are complimentary but not identical, we’ve accumulated a fair amount of knowledge between the two of us by now.

So how are we currently chosing what to write on? We’re pretty much riffing on what comes up right now.

What’s interesting to me is that, as I find myself ready to start a new topic, suddenly someone with a  new need manifests, putting my new topic in front of me.

 

• I wrote on scrying because I met a woman in a bookstore who had questions about it.
• The posts on energetic shields were for empaths I’d met doing readings who needed shielding skills to master  their gifts.
• Folks trying to let go of the energy from emotional wounds of the past were the starting point for the posts on grounding.

You get the idea.

So where am I going next?

In the last 12 hours, while randomly reading a few other blogs , I’ve run across two unrelated people who were both rather stressed by portentious dreams ( one a crash of the plane she was about to take, the other a recurring dream about setting up with the band before playing a performance…).

There’s a need here…

So I guess I’m going to Dreamland next…

Making Extracts

Extracts are a basic way of turning the aromatic components of  an herb into a useable liquid.

You will need:
a non-reactive container (glass is the best)
a solvent, usually alcohol  (grain if the extract is to be taken internally; rubbing if it is to be used externally).
The herb  to be extracted.

To make:
Place the herb in the container, add the solvent,  let stand for at least a week, then strain and bottle .

Salt : It’s uses

Salt is one of the oldest preservative and  purifying substances around. As you may have noticed, salt forms the base of several of the powders mentioned in my posts. So here are a couple of different kinds of salt and their metaphysical uses.
Sea salt: A small amount dissolved in a glass of water releases a weak electrostatic charge that will neutralize negative energies in a room.
Black salt: Comes from Hawaii , good for banishings and exorcisms .
Kosher salt: A coarse salt used in the process of Koshering , it makes a good base for powders and can also be used as a base for bath salts.
Other uses:
Salt poured across a doorway will stop spirits from entering.
A circle of salt block spells and spirits .

Hotfoot Powder

This is an all purpose powder for dealing with  directed as opposed to random or unintentional negative energies or people.
You will need:
Equal quantities of,
Salt-either kosher or table.
Black pepper.
Red pepper.
Garlic powder.

To make :
Mix the ingredients until they are a uniform color.
Store in an airtight jar.

To use:
Sprinkle where the person who is magickally attacking you will walk (the threshold is traditional).
