A basic list of equipment for potion brewing.
Non- reactive pots; that means stainless steel or teflon lined, 2 & 5 quart.
Strainer
Measuring cups 1/4-1 cup, pint and quart; plastic will do
Measuring spoons
Funnel
Ladle
Non – wooden stirring spoon, Wood may look archaic and “Witchy” but steel or plastic avoids cross contamination
Heat source, such as a hot plate
Storage jars and bottles
Mortar and pestle
Now where can you get these things ?
Big Lots, Ocean State Job Lot, Family Dollar are good sources for inexpensive kitchen ware, Pier One for storage bottles and jars, and if you have access to an IKEA store, then you can find all of it.

I’m taking break from the Warding series to do a post or two on the importance of safety in the art of making potions and related mixtures.
So let me put on my Severus Snape hat and get started.
1: Do not use your cooking utensils for making magickal mixtures. This is both for ritual reasons (separating the magickal from the mundane) and for safety reasons. (Some of the materials are poisonous ) .
2: While I am all for “Green” Witchcraft, if you can obtain new containers for your finished products, you can avoid cross contamination due to residue ingrained into the material of the container. Think pasta sauce in a plastic container.

Words can activate or shut down the mind-body connection….

Words can be used to name things and change what they are….

Words repeated can shift the nature of reality….

Making Extracts

Extracts are a basic way of turning the aromatic components of an herb into a useable liquid.

You will need:
a non-reactive container (glass is the best)
a solvent, usually alcohol (grain if the extract is to be taken internally; rubbing if it is to be used externally).
The herb to be extracted.

To make:
Place the herb in the container, add the solvent, let stand for at least a week, then strain and bottle .

Sage Extract

This one is useful when you are working around
some one who has smoke issues.
To make:
fill a glass bottle 1/3 full of sage leaves.
add alcohol , (Grain if you want it edible, Rubbing
otherwise ).
Let sit for 1-2 weeks.
use in a spray bottle in place of burning sage to
smudge rooms and objects.

Potions 3

My next recipe is for an extract for dealing with
spirits and ghosts.
You will need:
Rosemary
rubbing alcohol
a bottle

To make:
place the rosemary and alcohol in the bottle
and let steep untill the mixture turns green .
allow to sit for 2-3 weeks .

to use:
put in a spray bottle and spritz where needed.

Potions 2- Red Oil

it’s Starwolf again with another mystical brew.
Red Oil:
you will need:
1 liter of olive oil ( EVO is not needed just a good
quality cold pressed oil)
2 cups of St.John’s Wort flowers, fresh or dried
a jar large enough to hold the oil and the flowers
annato seed(optional)
Procedure:
place the flowers in the jar
cover with olive oil
let sit for 2-months
if you are using fresh flowers, the oil will turn red
naturally-add the annato seed for the same
effect using dried flowers.
after 2-4 months, strain and use

This is another brew good for negative energy ,
just rub a little on your 3rd eye chraka .

Recipes and Potions #1-War Water

War Water:
This is an all purpose brew for dispelling
negative energies and house purification.
You will need:
1 large bottle
3,5 or 7 iron cut nails
sufficent water to fill the bottle

to make, simply place the nails in the bottle
fill with water
allow the nails to rust

NB. the cloudier and nastier looking the water
gets the better it works>

to use : simply spray or sprinkle around the
affected dwelling , object or person.
