… and the political campaign has been particularly rough on the spirit.
At this point, it’s good to take extra care to manage your stress, nurture yourself , regain your center and find balance, so you don’t let all of the challenging issues take over your life.
Some simple suggestions?
- Know your body. Know what stress and anger and overwhelm feel like. Do they show themselves as pain in your neck/back/shoulders/ the symptoms of a cold or flu?
- Listen to your body. When those symptoms start to show up, that’s the time for self care before they make you sick or take over your world
- Disconnect. Turn off the news, Spend less time following politics on line. Screen your calls. Those stressful things will all be there after you’ve taken care of yourself (except for the ones that have been debunked by then- less to worry about! a bonus!)
- Know the things that make you feel good, feel safe or feel nurtured. Comfort food. Music. A favorite book. A movie that reminds you that there is good in the world. Know the things that will help you comeback to center, keep them available for convenient use and do them when you start to feel like it’s all too much.
- Meditate. There are lots of different ways to do this, but they all help to calm racing thoughts and stress and bring us back into balance.
The important thing in these tumultuous times is to make sure to take some time to take care of yourself. In that way, you’re more likely to stay happy and healthy in body, mind and spirit.
