Magick and Movies and TV , oh My!

Got a call a few weeks ago from someone we’d met who was going through a metaphysical crisis.

Well, she was…and she wasn’t….

As we talked her through things, it became more and more clear that:

she didn’t really have a lot of practical and accurate information about metaphysics
she had placed an open demand for action from the unseen cosmos without specifying who or where that action should come from
she hadn’t taken any precautions to protect herself while she did so
she evidently didn’t know as much about metaphysics as she thought she did. Indeed, as we gradually sorted out the details, it became pretty clear that most of her metaphysical knowledge came from TV and the movies

And now she was having negative consequences, and, since most of her metaphysical knowledge came from TV and the movies, she was putting the worst possible interpretation on things (it must be demons, right?) and she wasn’t having much success in resolving the problems that she had invited into her life

Sigh.

Well we helped her sort things out. We hope that she’ll take our advice and get some more accurate knowledge from a teacher or good non-fiction metaphysical books, so she won’t have these kinds of problems in the future; but this brings up a few points that I wanted to share with you all.

If you want to work in metaphysical fields, make sure that you know what you’re doing first
Keep in mind that the primary goals of fiction and Tv and movies is to entertain you, not to educate you- and to do that, they’re going to do whatever it takes to tell a compelling story, even if they’re inaccurate. (Demons are exciting. Nasty prankish spirits not so much so) You can learn things from the media but always check them with a reliable source so you’re not misled by the drama.
Just like extreme sports, always wear the safety equipment. If you’re doing something unfamiliar, ward, call your guardian spirits, set an intention for only positive contacts or do whatever you can to keep yourself safe. Don’t stand in the middle of the unseen world and shout “Come and get me! I’m tasty!”

Explore but keep yourself safe out there. Practice safe hex…

Another use for Herkimers is warding an area. Place a Herkimer at each of the Cardinal points, (size does not matter but you DO want them to be of roughly equal size) and cast a tradition appropriate circle. The crystals will maintain the energy of the circle.

Herkimer Diamonds are the exception to the American belief that “bigger is better”. Indeed they seem to work on the concept of ” less is more”. Some of most energetic Herkimers that I have worked with are not much bigger than a wooden match head. This leads to their inclusion in ultra small wards, say no bigger than a cigarette filter, which can be carried in a wallet or used to ward an office or a cubicle .

Stop Flushing More Money Down the Drain…

Earlier this week, we talked about Feng Shui beliefs about plumbing. How in Feng Shui, if the lid is up on the toilet, it can energetically lead to money “going down the drain”…

And, for the gentlemen in the readership, this is not a “woman-wants-the-seat-down” thing. The belief is that water draining out of the house energetically leads to unexpected expenses.

car repairs;
home repairs;
tax bills:

You get the idea.

So, the concept is that, by keeping the lid down when the toilet is not in use, you are blocking that negative energy flow, and cutting down on or eliminating such freak expenditures.

This is called a Feng Shui “cure” – a technique or trick to block negative energy. And it is a good thing.

But, by the by, your toilet is not the only place that water drains out of, right?

No worries – we got some other cures for you….

For drains in sinks (kitchen, bathroom, or, for the ritzy, home bar), one way of blocking the money from going down the drain is to stop the sinks when not draining water. Close the little thing-a-ma-jig…

Or, if that’s too hard to remember (especially when you get up early or crash out very late), you can tie a red ribbon around the drain pipe under the sink for long range protection that doesn’t require remembering to do something on a regular basis.

It’s also a good idea to be sure to turn faucets completely off, and repair any dripping faucets. That not only prevents the energetic drain of cash, but also that drain on the physical plane (do you know how fast your water bill goes up with that tiny little drip?)

So control the energy. Do the cures.

And don’t let your money go down the drain….

How do you ward a cubicle ? Easy, as mass means nothing in metaphysics, you go small. Just go to the rock shop , get 4 really small Herkimer Diamonds 1/2″ or less and use them.

Once you have set up your first set of wards, you can expand the number of circles around your space. Say one inside your house, the next immediately outside , and a third at the perimeter of your property. This corresponds to the military principle of “Defense in Depth”.

These act to ground out negative energy, with the exception of the Jet/Amber combination which converts negative energy to positive.

To make the circle permanent you will need “repeaters” to keep it up. The best one’s that I have found are double terminated Quartz crystals. You can bury them if outside or, if inside, mount them in the wooden candle cups, the kind you find in craft stores.
