well that was interesting

Yesterday was a very busy day, with a lot of stuff to do before I was out on the road for a In expectation of miracle considerable amount of time.

Of course, that was the day that the phone and the connection to the internet started to go on and off on and off on and off. This is particularly crucial because my landline and my internet are the primary way that my day job communicates with me, sends me new referrals, asks me questions and in general keeps the connections going. My landline is the number I also give out to my clients, because I have a cell but I rarely have it on. (If I’m out, I’m either driving and shouldn’t be talking on the phone or with a client and shouldn’t be talking on the phone, and besides, I prefer to get all of my phone messages in one place…) I have the cell for emergencies, but not my main contact; so that makes this a big deal, especially on a day when I didn’t have much time to deal with it.

I sighed. I pouted. I rebooted the modem two or three times, and used the troubleshooting settings on the computer.

No joy.

and so I called the phone company. and, believe it or not, the wait was shorter than usual, they sent someone out and he finished the job on the minute I needed to hit the road

it seems a series of lightning strikes from recent storms had caused some wear and tear on the grounding systems

huh

and tonight, I get home and everyone is chattering about Mercury going retrograde starting today

oh.

for those who don’t know, mercury retrograde is said to make communications more difficult. The current round starts August 30 and runs until Sept 22

please note tho, that Mercury retrograde is not like some kind of Hollywood curse. It’s a tendency not an absolute, and a cue to think carefully before speaking your truth.

Today communication became harder for me but it was also easier than usual as well. There’s a definite message in there some where and I’m gonna have to meditate on it a bit to figure out what the Universe is trying to tell me

Have been watching the political posts online during the primaries. Some of the things hands with laptop typing in night that are posted are absolutely true, some are true or false based on how you view the world, and some are so ridiculously false that it’s a wonder that peoples’ noses don’t grow when they post them.

Usually, though, you can read something and pretty much figure out the difference between fact and horse feathers. The problem with this year’s campaign is that so many outrageous and bizarre things are none-the-less true that it’s hard to get a feel for it by just reading them.

The bottom line is that, if you want to act with integrity, in this campaign there are times when you are going to have to check your facts on certain things before you share them. Check them so that you’re not promoting lies that can hurt a person, a candidate or a country.

So why am I talking about that here on Foresight’s blog?

Well, the other day, I saw a post from a friend who was upset. Someone had come into the metaphysical store she worked at it and asked about smudging with sage. Someone else had told them that if they did it themselves and did it wrong, they could summon demons to them.

(and that person evidently had an expensive service where they would do the smudging for them, demon free…)

wow

Now I have no problem with people being paid to perform services that other people feel uncertain about or don’t want to do. I do have a problem with people lying to people to sell them expensive services, especially when they threaten them with harm.

I suddenly had a cosmic “a-ha!” In this way, metaphysics is like politics. If you don’t know about a particular subject, you need to seek out information but you also need to check that information, especially if it’s intimidating or seems designed to frighten you into opening your wallet further.

Find good books on the subject.
Consult sources on the internet that you’ve found reliable (hopefully including this one)
talk to people at metaphysical stores that you feel comfortable with
take classes
and don’t just take your info from once source. Consult multiple sources to see if you’re getting the straight story.

Be smart. Be safe. Don’t get fooled.

(and, by the way, you cannot summon demons by smudging with sage. Smudging with sage banishes unwanted energy- it doesn’t attract it. You can, however, set off the smoke detector, so deactivate that temporarily while you smudge…)

Sometimes, enlightenment requires doing the work first (Sometimes You Just Need To Do the Work )

But sometimes it doesn’t. Sometimes, when we least expect it, enlightenment will come knocking on our doors or whisper in our ears….

Now, for that to work, we need to be ready for it. We need to acknowledge that such messages exist and that they may come to us without advance warning. We need to be prepared to stop and listen. We need to stop talking ourselves out of what our inner wisdom has to tell us. We need to be able to accept that, while sometimes you need to work hard to move forwards, that is not always the case.

That we can’t demand that enlightenment come with no effort on our parts, but that sometimes it does anyway

Our friends at Dictionary.com tell us that serendipity is

an aptitude for making desirable discoveries by accident, and also
good fortune or luck

Sometimes, enlightenment comes through serendipity.

So, if you’re looking to advance in a metaphysical area, I’d encourage you to pick your goal, lay your plans and get working on your dream-but I’d also urge you to keep an eye out for that unexpected moment of inspiration.

Because sometimes, serendipity…

Salt of the Earth

It’s amazing how many types of magick can be done with common everyday household objects

And one of the more versatile is salt

Salt can be used metaphysically for purification, protection and to damp down excessive energy.

You can

sprinkle salt around your bed to shield against unwanted energies and entities and sleep deep
use it to create a barrier to keep out negative energy or metaphysical visitors
use it to clean energy out of things you’ve just brought home (as my grandmother would say “You don’t know where it’s been.”
use it to damp down psychic input for people who are new to this and learning how to deal with it
and there’s a lot more uses besides

Ways to do this? Besides just sprinkling it around, you can

Bury new tools in a bowl of salt or let them sit in a salt water bath to cleanse them (some items respond poorly to this and need to be cleansed a different way)
In a place full of stale or negative energy (for instance, where there’s been a lot of fighting), sprinkle the salt and let it sit and soak up the energy and then sweep it out the door with the intention that all the bad energy goes with it
Feeling negative or like you’ve been energetically “slimed”? Try washing with a face or bod scrub with salt as one of the main ingredients, with the intention that washing that off takes the negative energy with it

Are there places in your life where there’s negative energy you need to be rid of? Think salt, and what it can do for you

So lets tackle another one of these.

Many people believe that good luck is scarce and hard to come by- and by believing that, they push good luck away and magnetize hard times to them.

Some folks believe good luck is scarce- but have you ever noticed that some people seem to “just be lucky” most of the time? The ones that “good things just happen to” over and over?

We’ve all seen these people- and if you think about it, the fact that these folks exist challenges the concept that good luck is scarce or hard to come by. If it was, these folks wouldn’t have the lives they do.

Lets look at this in another way. If some folks are repeatedly lucky, well then that’s something that’s possible. And if they can do it, perhaps we can too…

What if good luck wasn’t scarce or hard to come by? What if you believed it was as common as the air you breathe?
