As I said in my last post, it’s a New Year – and many of us are standing around trying to figure out what we want to do with it.

Some of us set resolutions that are too general and overwhelming. Ones that we end up dropping because they’re too much for us to face. We talked about that in the last post – about setting smaller goals and taking baby steps towards our dreams so that we keep moving forwards and don’t give up.

But a lot of us have the opposite problem. We underestimate ourselves. We think of ourselves as limited/lacking/mediocre/unable to achieve great things.

And because we think of ourselves as background singers in the rock concert of life, we sell ourselves short. And don’t aspire to what is great in each of us (and each of us has something special we are here to do)

Sometimes we need to try to Dream Big.

When I want to dream big, I look for places to get inspired

I’ve got one for you today.

So now you’re on your way to making your dreams come true.

But, do you know where you’re going?

Those of you who’ve read my work or heard me talk in the past may be aware that I believe that each and every one of us (yes, you too!) has a mission in life. Something unique that you bring to the Party of Life that no one else can bring.

Finding out your Life Mission puts a new spin on setting goals and making your dreams come true….

You can set goals:

  • because they’re required by others (need to certify in CPR for a job);
  • because your body demands them (it’s time to bulk down);
  • because they’re a unique opportunity (who would have thought that I could learn morris dancing at half price if I sign up now?) ;
  • because they’re fun (alligator wrestling night at adult education? how can I pass on that?)

But goals set to live your Life Mission are extra special.

Your Life Mission is what you’re here to do. Because of this, things that are part of your mission tend to be more:

  • fun;
  • exciting;
  • juicy;
  • (fill in your favorite positive adjective here);

That’s not to say that life mission goals are all joy and fairy dust. Many times , you’ll find stages in reaching for your life mission to be hard work or temporarily frustrating.

But the goals that you set for your Life Mission not only move you towards being more perfectly You ( which is a blast) but also tend to feel good/ right in the process…

I’m not saying that all goals need to be about your Life Mission. I think dancing the Carioca or snake charming or learning a new language can be a wonderful thing and make your life better.

I’m just saying that the goals you set with your Life Mission in mind tend to be the ones that make the most difference to you and the world around you…

So, what are you here to do?

We’ll be looking at that more in the future.

Til then
