His father is Odin and his mother is the Joutoness JarnSaxa – Iron Knife. Like many of the 1st and 2nd generation Aesir , Thor is half Jouton.

Thor 2

To start with Thor , also called Thunor and Donner , is the God of the common people. Protector of the farmer, the tradesman, the guy pulling an oar on a longship, rather than the Cheiftan or King.

A hint as to who I’ll be touching on next week.
Cross the rainbow bridge to Asgard,
Where the booming heavens roar.
You’ll behold in breathless wonder,
The god of Thunder, Mighty Thor.

Loki is the trickster in Asgard family. The God of fire and mischief is not Odin’s adopted son as certain movies would have you believe but instead is his blood-brother . He is by birth a Jotun , the son of the giantess Laufey . A magican and a shapeshifter , he is the “catalyst” to many of the God’s adventures. Most notably he is the mother “I said he was a shapeshifter” of Odin’s steed Slepiner and the father ,by the Jotuness Angerboda, of Hel, Fenrir and Jordmongnir.

Odin and his brothers came to resent the Jouton of his mother’s kin and struck at them , slaying Yimir in the process. The resultant flood of blood drowned most of the primal Jotun( except those who esaped in a boat) , almost put out the fires of Muspellhiem and filled the abyss.
