Burning candle“Successful people maintain a positive focus in life no matter what is going on around them. They stay focused on their past successes rather than their past failures, and on the next action steps they need to take to get them closer to the fulfillment of their goals rather than all the other distractions that life presents to them.

Some days are brilliant- full of light and love and laughter; and those kinds of days fill our buckets, and raise our vibration levels so that we attract more and more positive people and things and experiences.

Some days, on the other hand, are not

Sometimes our lives are full of stress and chaos and enthropy and everything seems to be falling apart. Some days are like being nibbled to death like baby ducks, and we find ourselves stuck in permanent cranky mode

and, when the things around us that are demanding our attention are unpleasant and negative, we tend to focus on them. That drains our buckets and drops our vibrations into more negative levels- and that attracts more negative stuff (which drops us further down into the negative spiral)

Copy of Fotolia_44996157_MFortunately, there’s something we can do about this…

When things are going wrong, the tendency is to put your focus on them. It’s true that you want to pay attention enough so you don’t further traumatize the loved one in crisis or drive into the pot hole that’s just opened up in front of you, but that doesn’t mean that you always have to give all of your attention to what’s going wrong

You can also put some of your focus on things going right. On people you love. On music that makes you want to move. On stories  that make you smile. and on all of the other things in life that bring you up again

and even that small amount of positive focus will fill your bucket a little bit, bring your energy back up and start attracting better things

(which raises your energy a little bit further)

When you’re surrounded by things falling apart, it’s sometimes hard to think of positive things to focus on. You know they’re out there, but you just can’t think of them right now

the trick is to be prepared

When life is good, or at least ok, sit down and make yourself a list of what’s good in your life. Make multiple copies of this list and put them where you can easily put your hands on them

Then the next time things go wrong, as soon as you get some breathing room, grab a copy of your list and focus on what’s good in your life.

Fill your bucket- and start attracting better things….

The other day, I got a message in my inbox titled “Putting Manifestation on Autopilot.”

Really?

Truth be told, your manifestation is already always on auto pilot. The Law of Attraction says that we tend to manifest or attract into our lives more of whatever we give the majority of our attention and energy to (or other things that vibrate at a similar level).

Thus, if we focus more on abundance, we attract more abundance. If we focus more on our fear of not being able to pay all our bills, we attract more shortages

And, if I focus more on warm chocolate chip cookies, I not only tend to attract more warm chocolate chip cookies, I may also attract more chocolate milkshakes.

If we focus on what’s right with our lives, we tend to attract more of that. If we focus on what’s wrong, more of that pops up.

So the real issue is not putting your manifestation on autopilot. That’s already been done for us.

The real issue is on putting your focus and keeping your focus on the kind of things you want so that you attract more of that, rather than the other random stuff.

So, what are you focusing on today?

We’ve been talking about 5 minute meditation – about ways to include little bits of meditation as part of your normal day. We’ve looked at such things as breathing, relaxation, fire, eating, waiting, standing online, and listening.

But have you thought about making other parts of your daily routine part of your meditation practice?….

By now, you’ve probably noticed that one of the most key points in meditation is focusing your attention on a single thought or experience. The act of focus  helps us to relax, calms the monkey mind, and brings us to our centers and the peace that we can find there.

And we can certainly find a focus in any regular practice or activity.

Whether you’re doing the dishes, or paying the bills, or cleaning the bathroom, almost any basic repetitive activity has the potential to also be an exercise in presence, relaxation and meditation.

You breath deeply. You relax. You focus totally on what you’re doing, being present with it. And you let the acts that fill your day become a meditation.

A 5 minute meditation.

There are no limits to meditation. The only question is what are you going to bring your peace and presence to today?…..

In my Jan. 5 post on New Year’s resolutions and making your dreams come true, I talked about the concept of using the New Year to stimulate real change in your life, as opposed to good intentions that turn into regrets by the end of January.

If you have projects / goals/ dreams you want to make real, what’s one of the most powerful things you can do to make that happen?

Write it down….

On the physical / psychological / physiological side of the fence, many psychological /sociological studies have found that writing a goal down appreciably increases the odds that you will achieve it.

Even if you write it down, put it away and don’t look at it for a long time…

Weird, but true. The literature is full of stories about folks who wrote down a description of the perfect life partner, an ideal job or other desired objective, lost it for a while then found it again after time, only to find that that goal had actually come to pass…

Of course, it’s better to write it down and look at it on a regular basis, but surveys say that is not necessarily necessary.

More news from the weird but true scientific side of the aisle- medical studies have found that checking something off on a “To Do” list can actually stimulate a small but significant boost of endorphins, those pleasant little hormones that make us feel good.

(So, if you’re like me and have ever written down something you’ve already done on your list so you can check it off, there’s actually a good reason for this 🙂  ! )

From a psychological standpoint, writing down what we want to achieve focuses our attention on it, so we start looking for ways to make it happen. Checking off completed steps feels good so we do more things to make our dreams come true.

Over on the metaphysical side of the aisle, writing things down starts the process of energetically attracting the goal we seek and the ways to get there. If we write it down and look at it regularly, every time we look, we are focusing our attention on and drawing energy into manifesting that new reality.

It’s not always enough to write it down and look at it (although some times, it is…) but doing this stacks the decks more in our favor and makes it easier to get where we want to go.

So, write it down…

  • Write it down in your day planner and look at your dream everyday.
  • Write it on a card and tape it up next to your bathroom mirror, so you focus on it while you brush your teeth
  • Write it on a card and tape it to your car dashboard( if it’s a goal that you’re comfortable with people seeing).

Write your dream or goal down and put it where you can see it.

And now you’re on your way…

See you soon
