As  we’ve said before, the things in your life tend to affect the level of your energetic field; and the level of your energetic field tends to affect what further kinds of things you attract into your life.

Are the things and people in your life primarily ones that you like and enjoy? You’ll tend toCopy of Fotolia_44996157_M attract more of those.Surrounded by negative people and negative experiences? You’ll tend to attract more of these kinds of things.

Now, we can’t always control what kinds of experiences we have in our lives. Manure occureth. What we can do is to nurture ourselves and make choices that increase the amount of good things, people and experiences in our lives.

And one way to do that is to play like a child…

Many of us have actually forgotten what we like. We’ve forgotten what pleases us as individuals, as opposed to what society tells us should please us. If that’s where you’re at, one of the best ways to get back in touch with yourself is to take a chronical roadtrip and  think about what you liked as a child.

Did you like:

  • coloring with crayons?
  • making things?
  • taking things apart and putting them together?
  • playing with other kids?
  • running games?
  • games with rules?
  • games where you made up the rules as you went along?

The kinds of things you liked as a child can give you clues to activities that you can use to nurture yourself as an adult (the kid that colors may be an adult that uses color to make himself feel more positive or creative) or you may even find that returning to those kids activities literally may make you happy and raise your energy level(maybe you just want to color with crayons….)

Either way, checking in with what made you happy as a child is a great way to get in touch with what can make you happy as an adult.

Here we are in the dark time of the year, and it’s easy to get down and blue when the days are short and dark and cold. When we get the blues, the vibrational level of our  energy fields also drops down lower, and tends to attract more of the things we don’t want and less of the things we do.

How do we break out of this downwards cycle? Well, as noted in previous posts, you need to fill your own bucket. You need to pay attention to what gives you joy or strength or peace and make a point of making time for more of that in your life on a regular basis.Copy of Fotolia_44996157_M

But what if you don’t know what that is?…

Many of us have spent so much time doing the things we’ve been told are important that we’ve lost track of what actually makes us happy. We rarely get a moment to nurture ourselves… and when that moment occasionally happens, it speeds by and is gone before we can figure out what to do with it.

There’s lots of good ways to figure that out, and I’ll be talking about them in upcoming posts. For now, I’d like to recommend a book called The Woman’s Comfort Book by Jennifer Loudon. It’s a great reference for figuring out and remembering how to nurture yourself. Check it out and enjoy.

We know that, when our vibrational level is higher, we tend to attract better people, things and experiences into our lives.

We know that nurturing ourselves is one way to fill our buckets and raise our vibrational levels.

And still, many times, we forget to do it.

So, what’s up with that?

Most of us are raised with beliefs that work against nurturing ourselves

  • Don’t be selfish.
  • Work before play.
  • Put others before yourself.
  • Don’t be lazy

Now, there’s truth and value in all of these beliefs, but they completely overlook that we also need to take care of ourselves. To nurture ourselves. To do things that make us happy. To laugh and rest and fool around.

And that, when we don’t nurture ourselves, when we don’t fill our own buckets, sooner or later we burn out.

We need to put ourselves on our own lists. To give self nurturing theCopy of Fotolia_44996157_M same value that we do working hard or taking care of others.

One way to do that is to make a date with yourself

  • write “Shopping trip” on your calendar
  • put “meditation” in your date book
  • record your favorite shows

Make a firm commitment, preferably in writing, of what you’re gonna do and when you’re gonna do it to fill your bucket

and then keep that date…

We’ve been talking about things that fill your bucket and things that drain it. It’s important to do things to nurture yourself and make you feel good because that raises the level of your energetic field, and that not only feels great but also helps you to attract more positive things, people and experieces into your live and manifest them out of nowhere.

One of the big problems, though, is remembering to do those things to fill that bucket…

There are always people who are more than glad to remind us to do the things that drain and deplete us, but somehow, it’s a lot harder to remember to do things that raise our energy. If you’ve given it some thought, by now you’ve got a list of things that make you feel great and fill that bucket right up, but, for may of us, time races by and somehow those things don’t get done.

You need to build a habit of filling the bucket; and until you have Copy of Fotolia_44996157_Mthat habit, you may need reminders. You might consider:

  • Making an appointment with yourself on your calendar or in your planner
  • Reading through your list of things to fill your bucket every morning
  • Putting cue cards with simple prompts (Read. Smile. Chocolate) in places that you will se them frequently (next to the bathroom mirror. On your computer surround. Taped to your dashboard)
  • Keep out supplies for positive activities in places where you will see them (a lotion that smells good on the sink surround. A book that makes you laugh on your bedside table.)

Think of ways to make those positive activities visible, so you’ll remember to do them everyday

Copy of Fotolia_44996157_MLast time (Filling Your Bucket- Make a List) we talked about brainstorming; about coming up with a list of things that fill your bucket and raise your energetic level. About a list of things that can lift you up when you’re feeling low.

And one of the first things that you should put on that list is music.

Music is powerful stuff. It can change your state and lift you out of that hole you’re in. Music can make you feel

  • happy
  • calm
  • strong
  • peaceful
  • invigorated
  • inspired
  • peaceful
  • and lots of more things.

And that’s not surprising, because energy is made up of vibrations and so is sound. For this reason, sound is used to break up stuck energy, clear negative energy and invite good energy in

And what could be better (and more fun) for filling up your bucket?

So while you’re making your list of what fills your bucket, give some thought to the kind of music that can give you strength, help you focus or fill you with joy.

Put it on your list. Make sure it’s ready when you need it.

Then fill your bucket with music on a regular basis- and let your energy dance to the tunes of joy…

Some days are brilliant- full of light and love and laughter; and those kinds of days fill our buckets, and raise our vibration levels so that we attract more and more positive people and things and experiences.

Some days, on the other hand, are not

Sometimes our lives are full of stress and chaos and enthropy and everything seems to be falling apart. Some days are like being nibbled to death like baby ducks, and we find ourselves stuck in permanent cranky mode

and, when the things around us that are demanding our attention are unpleasant and negative, we tend to focus on them. That drains our buckets and drops our vibrations into more negative levels- and that attracts more negative stuff (which drops us further down into the negative spiral)

Copy of Fotolia_44996157_MFortunately, there’s something we can do about this…

When things are going wrong, the tendency is to put your focus on them. It’s true that you want to pay attention enough so you don’t further traumatize the loved one in crisis or drive into the pot hole that’s just opened up in front of you, but that doesn’t mean that you always have to give all of your attention to what’s going wrong

You can also put some of your focus on things going right. On people you love. On music that makes you want to move. On stories  that make you smile. and on all of the other things in life that bring you up again

and even that small amount of positive focus will fill your bucket a little bit, bring your energy back up and start attracting better things

(which raises your energy a little bit further)

When you’re surrounded by things falling apart, it’s sometimes hard to think of positive things to focus on. You know they’re out there, but you just can’t think of them right now

the trick is to be prepared

When life is good, or at least ok, sit down and make yourself a list of what’s good in your life. Make multiple copies of this list and put them where you can easily put your hands on them

Then the next time things go wrong, as soon as you get some breathing room, grab a copy of your list and focus on what’s good in your life.

Fill your bucket- and start attracting better things….

A little over a month ago, I did a post about the nature of personal energy (“Some Things Fill Your Bucket”) – about how some people and things fill your bucket and how some drain it dry.

I invited you to take a look at your bucket and decide whether it was empty or full, and how much; and then to decide what that was telling you about the life you’re living now

That’s important, you know. When you’re burning the candle at both ends and draining your bucket to the dregs, you end up burnt out. That makes it a lot more difficult to draw positive things into your life and leaves room for depression to creep in.

I saw a meme the other day that gave me more input into this.

Copy of Fotolia_44996157_M “The problem with both  the folks that think the  glass is half empty and  the ones that think the  glass is half full is that  they’re both missing the  point…

The glass is re-fillable.”

Brilliant!

It’s important to think about what’s in our lives that drains our buckets and limit our exposure to it, but it’s also important to think about what we can do to refill our buckets for ourselves, no matter what else is going on around us

So let look at some ways to fill our buckets…

Catch you soon
