Just a reminder –  tonight (1/19/12) I’m  appearing from 8-9 on Cauldron of Knowledge with Alexis Doyle on http://liveparanormal.com

The topic is those New Year’s resolutions – how do you make them really happen, as opposed to just make ‘em and break ‘em, as well  how to make your dreams come true at any time of the year that you like. ( Who says that we can only start great undertakings or heroic quests on January 1st?…)

We’ll be looking at ways to strengthen your resolve to make good things happen, conquer the dragons of Resistance, and otherwise empower your Better World Coming…

Want to catch my interview, call in with questions or be part of the live chat happening during every show?

If you just want to listen, you can go to the above site, click the “Listen Live and Chat” listing under the “radio-listen/chat room” heading, and click “LISTEN HERE” next to “Cauldron of Knowledge”.

If you want to chat, you’ll need to go to the top of the home page on the extreme right and click “Join” to set up a personal account ( it’s free but takes a few moments, so you might want to do this in advance)

There are provisions for listeners to phone in with questions, too.

And, if you can’t tune in at that time, Live Paranormal.com archives its shows for your listening at a time convenient to you.

Hope you can join me  tonight from 8-9 at Cauldron of Knowledge on liveparanormal.com

Inviting you folks to do the happy dance with me…

After several months of polishing and editing, and a week of struggling with Word and self-publishing software that wasn’t co-operating, I am pleased to announce that the next book from Foresight Publications is imminent.

My new book, The Practical Empath – Surviving and Thriving as a Psychic Empath  was finally completed and submitted to the self-publishing process as of 4 pm on last Thursday.

And I have just been informed that the proof copy is winging its way in my direction, and will probably reach me within the next couple of days ( expected by 430 on Wednesday, but we shall see…)

It’s exciting…

If all goes well, I’m hoping to release The Practical Empath into general circulation within the next couple of weeks.

In the mean time, you’re all invited to be a part of my happy :)!

In the last post on 5 minute meditation, we talked about a way to incorporate meditation into your day while waiting. We did a whole body relaxation that can be done while waiting for a meeting, a doctor’s appointment or a car repair.

Now, let’s look at a different kind of meditation while waiting.

Let’s meditate while standing in line….

Everyone stands in line. At the grocery, at the post office, at a store or restaurant or amusement park. Standing in line is one of the biggest time wasters in every one’s life.

Unless you meditate while you do it.

We’re going be doing a miniature version of a walking meditation, while we’re standing in line.

Start by broadening your stance slightly, improving your base of support and balance. You can close your eyes if it seems safe to do so, otherwise you can do this meditation with your eyes open.

Take a deep breath, breathing out any tension or anxiety, as we did in the last meditation. (If it’s been a tough day, take as many deep breaths as you feel the need for.)

Briefly do a whole body run through – a quick version of the body relaxation we did last time. When you find tension in your body, stop and breath to relax it.

Bring your attention to your feet. Pay close attention to the contact your feet have with the ground – how your body pushes downwards against the earth, and the earth pushes up against your feet.

Sway gently back and forth. Focus on how the pressure and other sensations shift as different parts of your feet take more or less weight.

When the line permits, take one step forwards, but do it as s-l-o-w-l-y as you can without the people in line behind you throwing things at you.

Slowly lift one foot and swing it forwards through the air. Place your heel down, paying close attention to how that feels, then s-l-ow-l-y roll your weight onto your heel, over your arch, and onto the ball of the foot.

Then repeat, stepping s-l-o-w-l-y onto the other foot.

As you move onto the other foot, focus on how your first foot pushes off with your toes  s-l-o-w-l-y.

And then repeat the process with the next step.

The process of presence in the now – of doing a simple action slowly and focusing totally on it can help to still the mind and relax the body.

And you’re doing it all while everyone else is wasting their time standing in line.

Clever you….

Going to step off the track of 5 minute meditation for a moment, because I’ve run across some thing that I found kind of interesting.

I’ve been in an online discussion with a woman about the role of pain in growth and enlightenment.

She believes that pain is an essential and “perfect” part of the path to enlightenment- that to get past a certain point of spiritual growth, pain is necessary, and that, if you’re not experiencing pain as part of your spiritual path, you’re taking your spiritual growth too lightly.

I feel differently about it. While I think that pain can be part of the process of spiritual growth, and have had it as part of my own, my observation of both my experience and that of other folks around me, is that pain usually happens on the spiritual path at times:

  • when I’m not listening to what Spirit is trying to tell me; or
  • when I hear the message but am unwilling to move forwards because of things like fear, inertia, or being too comfortable where I am.

These are the times when the signs, and portents, and omens gradually increase until I get stuck in the posterior with the pointed stick of Enlightenment and finally start to move.

And that’s when the pain kicks in.

I am finding, gradually, that if I pay attention to what I’m learning, and if I move when I get the clear go ahead, I can move forwards on my spiritual path without the need for the pain (cue song “I Haven’t Got Time For the Pain”)

And I don’t have to go to spiritual summer school at the end of a pointy stick :)…

Not to say I’m perfectly enlightened- far from it. Some days I’m better at this than others.

But, given that our beliefs tend to shape the world around us, think I prefer to believe in “Growth essential – Suffering optional…”

Anyhoo, I thought that overall this is an interesting topic. One that has the prospects of having a positive effect on the lives of people in general. And I thought that there must be quite a number of ways of viewing the role of pain in spiritual growth.

Not looking to “choose up sides”. But I would be interested in what you think. What do you believe about the nature of pain on a spiritual path?
