I had a letter on a reader’s concern that going away on vacation was going to interfere with his ability to meditate. I responded briefly on the concept that even small bits of meditation can be effective, but, since that’s information that could be useful to the folks at large who come here, I thought that I’d like to expand on that just a bit.
When people think of meditation, their first thoughts tend to be of Eastern temples and yogis, of mantras and the lotus position,of chanting and vegetarianism and spiritual purity.
People often think of meditation as requiring long periods of time. As something done by people “far more spiritually advanced” than they are. As a complete lifestyle.
As work.
As demanding and un-fun.
As something they can’t possibly make time for.
Well, meditation can and has been all of those things.
But it doesn’t have to be. It can be other things too.
Meditation can fit right into your life, whatsoever your life happens to be. Meditation can adapt to who you are and what you’re about. And meditation can make your life better.
And we’re going to get into that, coming up
