Hi folks,

A New Year is on the way, with all the potential for joy, accomplishments and blessings that implies.

It seems like a good time to talk about New Year’s folklore- ways to invite abundance, health, prosperity, joy, growth and lotsa other good things into your life on the New Year. I therefore put on my loremaster cap and searched the world for beliefs to make the coming year a good one for all and sundry.

Some of these beliefs are things that I’ve had personal experience with. Others are things that I haven’t tried yet, but seem to have some intrinsic sense to them.

You’ll find my comments with each belief

In no particular order…

1) Both Ireland and Japan believe in having a thoroughly cleaned house on New Year’s Eve.I found one reference from Ireland that said if you left your dirty dishes to the next day, you’d be lumbered with toil and labor for the year. (Energetically, cleaning opens space for new things to come in, as well as being pleasing to fairies…)

2)In Wales, they open the back door on the first stroke of 12 to let the old year out, and the front door on the last stroke to let the new year in( energetically putting the past behind us)

3) In Scotland, Britain,and other UK countries, the “first footer” is the first person to cross the threshold after the year turns. To bring luck in the coming year, it should be a tall, dark man, preferably bringing gifts of 1 or more of the following  – whiskey, coal, small cakes or a coin; and should be given the hospitality of the house ( a guest bringing symbolic gifts can energetically draw good fortune)

4) In the southern US, eating black-eyed peas, particularly in a dish called “Hoppin’ John” is believed to bring abundance in the coming year( this started during the Civil War, when food was in short supply, and black-eyed peas could fill you up) .

5) The noise making common throughout many cultures at New Years was intended to drive evil spirits away (sound is often used for breaking up and banishing negative energy)

6) In Spain, eating 12 grapes at the stroke of midnight brings good luck for the next 12 months ( I could do with 12 juicy months in the coming year)

7) In Poland, touching the floor right foot first when you get out of bed on New Year’s Day brings good luck ( putting your right foot forward seems to set a good intention).

8 ) In parts of England, the first water drawn from a well on Jan. 1 is supposed to bring fortune and happiness ( I like this, but I’m not sure why)

9) Wearing new clothes on New Year’s Day is considered lucky and an omen of how the year will go by many Haitians and Londoners.( Symbolic magic, drawing more abundance)

10) Finally, I heard about a Sicilian custom of taking a full set of new coins, and placing them face up on the window sill before 12 to bring good luck as we pass from one year to the next. ( Once again symbolic magic, intermixing intention, physical symbols and time)

I hope you have fun on New Year’s. I’d also recommend that you use one or more of these beliefs (or make up your own) to build an intention for a happy, loving, healthy, prosperous, wonderful year to come…

Because we all deserve it…

I’m  picking out a new sweater, lining up a first footer and contemplating grapes as you read this 🙂

All good things to you- now and in the year to come.

First , HAPPY HOLIDAYS to everyone.
 Now for the meat.
Another way of dealing with negative energy,bad juju, maledictions etc… is to wear a mixture of Amber and Jet . The 2 stones in combination absorb negative energies and transform them into positive energy.

Yesterday(12/21) was the winter solstice. For those of us not up on such things, the winter solstice is the shortest day of the year, and has a great amount of spiritual significance in many cultures around the world.

That’s very important; but I thought I’d look at this from a slightly different standpoint (and that’s not surprising to folks who’ve read my writings before, is it?.. 😉 )

The winter solstice means that, from now on, the days will be getting longer again. It means that there will be more light in our lives.

More light? Now that’s interesting…

It’s not just literal light, although it’s that, too (and won’t I be glad of it? It’s been real dark around here lately…) It’s also a promise of spiritual light, of better things coming into our lives once more.

And there’s the challenge…

Many times, when life is full of bumps and bruises and containers of leftovers discovered too late in the back of the fridge, we can gradually lose track of the light. Our beliefs can slide from wonder to ennui to “tattle-tale gray” and further down until we expect the worst and fail to see the wonder all around us.

We lose the Light…

And, not only is that mindset an unhappy place to live in, but also, by continually focusing on the darkness, we tend to draw more of it to us.

Which is not what most of us want.

The gift of Solstice is the return of the Light. But you can’t see it if you keep them darn beige drapes drawn….

So, in the midst of the busyness, I’d urge you to stop, take a breath, and make room for the Light in your life. Whether it be the meditative light of a candle; the raucous and joyous explosion of a house with extravagant decorations; or the cool, clear light of a star; welcoming the Light is an open door for better things coming…

The Light is coming. Are you ready for it?

Best wishes for Love and Light and Prosperity for you and yours.

 Hi folks,

For a couple of years now, one of the techniques that I’ve been happy to be experimenting with is one called Emotional Freedom Technique ( E.F.T. , for short).

EFT is a process of combining affirmations with tapping on points on your energy meridians to clear negative beliefs, emotions, fears and phobias. It’s easy to learn, quick and easy to do,and very effective

Personally, I’ve found it incredibly helpful and effective for releasing”old luggage” that I wanted to let go of  but somehow couldn’t release (and as someone born on the cusp of Cancer and Leo, I don’t let go of anything easily 🙂 ). I’ve also seen video of its effectiveness in releasing military post traumatic stress disorder and swimming phobia.

Because it’s worked so well for me, I’ve been delighted to recommend it to other people who needed to let go of things. The site I’ve recommended is www.emofree.com, the site hosted  by Gary Craig, the developer of EFT.This site includes a free basic EFT manual, newsletter and lots more great resources, both free and for sale.

This site contains lots of useful information. It’s therefore painful to report that Gary is retiring as of Jan. 15, 2010, and  that,when he retires, the site and all of the resources close down as well.

Sigh. This is good stuff that’s helped a lot of people and could help a lot more. I understand, however, that the work’s become  overwhelming to him, and health problems are forcing him to close down. I’m just glad that I learned EFT when I did.

The bad news is that Gary Craig’s EFT site is closing down on 1/15/10. The good news is that it will remain open until then. I know that it’s the holidays and folks are busy, but I’d urge you to dash over to www.emofree.com and make EFT part of your life while theres still time.

You’ll be glad you did…

Til next time

A good combination for grounding/ensuring a restful sleep is to place a mixture of hematite and apache teardrops between the mattress and boxspring.
 Hope this helps.

Hey there, fellow dreamers…

In my last dream post, I talked about some ways that you can take some control about when, how and how often you experience psychic dreams.

Why would you want to do that?

Well, some examples of times when you might chose to limit psychic dreams or not dream that particular night are

  • the night before an important meeting or big test (you want to be rested and focused on the task at hand);
  • when you’re sick (illness can throw bizarre inaccurate twists into dreams, and psychic dreams can prevent you getting the rest you need to heal);
  • shared intimate experiences such as sex, death or childbirth (there’s such a thing as too much closeness…);
  • when there’s nothing that you can do (disasters on the other side of the planet);
  • when you need to be dreaming your own dreams, as opposed to someone else’s;

See how that works?

There may be some times that it’s a good idea to use the suggestion technique in the previous post, or other means to say that tonight’s not a good night for a psychic dream.

To keep your gift alive, you do need to use it, but not necessarily all of the time. Given that, it’s good to think about things at bedtime and consciously chose whether to open yourself to psychic dreams or not.

This will not only develop balance, so you get the rest you need, but also start developing your control over your more general psychic abilities- control that you’ll be glad to have later along (remember when I said that dreams are often the way that your psychic ability comes out to play first?…)

It’s also a good idea to incorporate a suggestion that, if this is a “non-dream” night, and there is urgent information that you need immediately for your own safety, health and well-being; or that of someone you care for, that the information will come through immediately and clearly ( “…This Night Is Pre-Empted For A Special Report…”)

So strike the balance between psychic information and rest, and have a wonderful day…

Hi there, folks

I’ve been going on and on for some time now about dreams, psychic dreams, how to interpret your dreams, techniques to working with your dreams and so forth…

There’s still more to go on this topic, but I’m going to diverge for a moment or two.

I got an email recently from a person who’s been following these dream posts, but is dealing with a different topic surrounding psychic dreaming- getting information that is unwanted, unnecessary and overly personal.

So what do you do when this happens?

  • When you dream of things that you can’t do anything about?
  • When you dream of things that are overly personal  (I think “none of my business” when it happens to me)?
  • When you dream of things that are traumatic and leave you drained?
  • When you can’t get a good night’s sleep because of all of the psychic traffic coming through your dreams?

What then ?

Some folks will consciously or unconsciously try to shut down their gifts for a number of reasons, including this one. That can be workable as a short term coping strategy, but there are a number of reasons that I’ll examine in the future that this isn’ t great as long-term solution.

It’s far better to learn how to manage  and gain control over your gift, so it can serve you as it was meant to.

With that in mind, did you know that you can

  • set parameters on incidents of psychic input (ex:only when I consciously declare I am willing to receive) ?
  • in effect, set “office hours” which are the only time you’re willing to receive (ex: no non-emergency visions while commutin)?
  • set limitations on the kind of info you’re willing to receive (ex: not to share other peple’s romantic encounters)?
  • set limitations on what can happen where (ex: no deceased folks in messy condition in my bedroom)?

And so forth…

There’s a number of ways to do this sort of thing.

The simplest way is one that you already know about…

When you go to sleep, you can give yourself directions about what kind of psychic dreaming you will accept:

Like ” I will only have psychic dreams when I consciously ask to…”

Or ” I will only dream of information that is useful to me”

Or ” My psychic dreams will come in ways that support my health and happiness.”

Or ” The morning after a psychic dream, I will be well-rested.”

You get the kind of thing.

Always make these statements positive ( ex  “I am rested” as opposed to ” I am not tired.”) as negative words such as “no”, “not” and the like tend to mess up the process.

So remember you can access your psychic abilities through dreams…

And you can chose how those dreams occur…

Now there’s a useful thought.

So ok the planets have come into alignment, the resonant frequency of the Earth has increased, and the metaphysical energies are flowing more freely. What does this mean for me ? Well, if you are involved in metaphysical activities, healing, meditation, etc.,  things will come easier. Eventually greater levels of understanding and harmony. And who knows, maybe even world peace.

It will be the Age of Aquarius after all.

Till next time
