Back on January 22 (One Door Closes, Another Opens…), I talked about having two different thoughts about what book I would be writing in 2013; and on January 24th (One Door Closes, Another Opens…part II), I talked about one possible topic- a book on dreams and dream work.

Now it’s time to talk about the other topic. I’m thinking about writing a book about religiously mixed marriages and ways to make them work.

You may or may not know this, but my husband Starwolf is a neopagan Wiccan and I’m a Christian. When we first got engaged, the literature available on mixed religion marriages was mainly on two different kinds of Protestants. (If the author wanted to get edgy, they might actually address marriage between a Protestant and a Catholic…) There was not anything out there for marriages between a monotheist and a polytheist. Since we’re both book-ish people on spiritual paths, this wasn’t helpful; and now that we’ve been married for over 23 years, when I look around and search the internet, I’m still not finding much available about this .

It’s a good time for such a book. It’s an age where lots of people are turning to find their own spiritual paths and there are many more faiths out there than there used to be.

When you’re married to a person of a different faith, there’s all of the skills you need to use to keep any relationship strong, such as communication, understanding, and respect, and then there’s all of the additional skills you need to support each other’s practices. There are also the many different aspects of dealing with family, friends and society as a mixed religion couple, especially when at least one of you follows a path that many folks don’t know about.

I’m thinking a book that prepares you for some of the unique challenges of being married to someone on a different path, and that gives you suggestions of how to deal with those challenges might be helpful for other folks traveling this road.

Back on January 22 (One Door Closes, Another Opens…), I talked about completing writing over 50 thousand words in thirty days for NaNoWriMo.

I also mentioned that, as I lay my still steaming head down on the pillow that night, I had two different thoughts about what book I would be writing in 2013. I said that I’d be thinking more about this and that I’d let you know as things developed.

Well, both ideas continue to develop apace, and I would appreciate some feedback from people who’d like to have input into the process.

One of the two ideas that is presently circling my brain is to do a book on different kinds of dream work- how to interpret your own dreams and other ways to work with dreams for a better life.

Most of the current dream interpretation books out there teach you to interpret your dreams by a set list of symbolism (for instance, a rose means this, a fire means that, and so forth.) That’s great- except it doesn’t really work.

Everyone has different interpretations of things, and their own different symbols for things. A cat may mean loving acceptance to me and cool rejection to you and we would both be right. Since your dreams come to you in your own system of symbols, trying to interpret them using a standardized list created by a books author (or even reprinted from an older work) may or may not be accurate.

I have a method of dream interpretation that teaches you to know what your dreams are saying to you personally, according to your own symbols, as opposed to trying to fit them into someone else’s head…

I’d also be including other dream work, including such things as learning to remember your dreams, programing your dreams to answer questions you can’t figure out when you’re awake, using dreams to boost your creativity, working with your mind- body connection and other things like this.

On the final day of NaNoWriMo, the 50 thousand words in thirty days dash to a first draft novel, I was pleased to cross that 50K finish line at about 11 pm that night.

And midnight came, and NaNoWriMo was over.

…..

But later that night, as I laid my tired head down on my cool and welcoming pillow and listened to my brains sizzle, a thought came to me.

No… actually two thoughts….

Thoughts about what book I would be writing in 2013….
